Where do we come from ? Where are we going? Modern cosmology via the big bang theory based on the theories of special relativity and general relativity has given us a completely new light on these questions in the 20th century. The recent acceleration of the development of our knowledge (with among others the very first results conveyed via the James Webb Space Telescope) shows us that great discoveries are yet to come in this field.
